Eminem is Back! New Album ‘MMLP2” announced
If Miley Cyrus’ 2013 VMA performance wasn’t enough shock value for you, we’ve got news for you: the original prince of profanities – Eminem – is back, and he’s announced a new full-length album entitled MMLP2 due for a November 5th release. Maybe you missed it, but MMLP2 stands for Marshall Mathers LP 2. The original Marshall Mathers LP was released way back in 2000, which featured breakthrough tracks like “The Real Slim Shady” and “Stan” and asides introducing our generation to the “Parental Advisory Explict Content” sticker, sold 27 million units worldwide.
Eminem first launched a teaser of his latest album via a Beats by Dr. Dre commercial which also featured a snippet of his upcoming single “Bezerk.” What we hear in those few seconds is a full verbal assault that brings back the glory days of hip hop: “Let’s take it back to real hip hop and start it from scratch,” Em raps. The trailer also boasts the return of Dr. Dre as an executive producer, alongwith hip hop mastermind Rick Rubin. Eminem also teased the new album and single earlier on Twitter with a caption at the 2013 Video Music Awards that read “Guess who’s REALLY back? #VMAs.”
A little more digging will reveal that Slim Shady has already dropped another one of the album’s anthems, “Survivor,” in a trailer for Activision’s first-person shooter video game Call of Duty: Ghosts, which is out on the same day as MMLP2. In the light of experiemental hip hop releases like Kanye West’s Yeezus and Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, we can’t wait for Eminem to take hip hop back to its purest form – loud, abrasive, and in your face.
