  • The ‘Something Different’ Amazon Fire Phone

The ‘Something Different’ Amazon Fire Phone

bezosphoneAmazon CEO Jeff Bezos believes there is room in the market for something different. Even with the dominant leads that Apple and Samsung hold, Bezos told The Associated Press in an interview, “it’s still early” in the wireless device business.

The phone’s most significant feature, called “Firefly,” employs audio and object recognition technology to identify products and present the user with ways to purchase the items through Amazon. Users can simply snap a photo of a book, for instance, and Firefly will offer up its title and author, give more information about it and provide ways to buy it through Amazon with a single click.

“We wanted to make a device that’s great for one person,” Bezos said. “It’s like a certain person likes chocolate and another person likes vanilla. The customer can choose.”

Another feature, called “dynamic perspective,” uses four infrared, front-facing cameras that tell the phone where the user’s face and eyes are located. The feature adjusts the user interface so that tilting the screen relative to the viewer’s face can toggle through screens, scroll through websites, make online video game characters fly up or down, and render buildings and other custom-made art in 3-D.

The feature that lets the new Amazon Fire Phone send a movie or TV show wirelessly to a compatible television while the the phone serves as a “second screen” to display information about actors, locations, and scenes is shown.amazon3

Amazon is using Gorilla Glass 3 here with a rubber frame. The buttons are indeed aluminum though. It’s also featuring a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display, which does 590 nits of brightness, so it gets pretty bright which is good. As far as the processor goes it’s running the Snapdragon 800 with an Adreno 330 GPU and has 2GB of RAM. On the back we’ve got a 13MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. The best part of the camera is that the Fire Phone includes unlimited photo storage in Amazon’s cloud storage. There’s also dual-stereo speakers on the bottom of the Fire Phone, which should give us a good sound experience.

The entry-level Fire phone, introduced Wednesday, costs $199 with a two-year AT&T contract, which places it at the high end of smartphone pricing. But the phone comes with 32 gigabytes of memory, double the standard 16 GB. It also comes with 12 months of Amazon Prime, the company’s free shipping, video, music and book subscription plan, which normally costs $99 a year.

    E3 2014: Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Unity

    assassins-creed-unity

Ubisoft waltzed into Microsoft’s E3 press conference to debut the first gameplay from next gen-exclusive action adventure title Assassin’s Creed: Unity.Confirming the previously rumored four player co-op multiplayer, the gameplay showed off some classic Assassin’s Creed gameplay and truly impressive next gen visuals. Unity’s multiplayer will allow players to create Brotherhoods with three of their friends to undertake assassinations. But that’s not all for Ubisoft. It returned to the stage during Ubisoft’s conference and gave fans even more to look forward to.

They not only released yet another gorgeous cinematic trailer, but the company also confirmed the release date for the title. It will be able for PC, PS4, and Xbox One starting October 28, 2014.

The cinematic trailer may not reveal any addition gameplay footage, but it does do a pretty great job of setting the scene and highlighting what seems to be the most exciting new feature of this game – four player co-op. A group of four assassins find themselves in the middle of the French Revolution circa 1789, where they team up to take down their targets.

A second slice of gameplay was shown off during Ubisoft’s conference, taking a slower pace and showing off the game’s immense level of detail. A CG trailer for the game also debuted during yesterday’s E3 festivities.

A pre-order page for the hotly-anticipated title has gone live right now confirming a Season Pass alongside a Collector’s Edition featuring a big statue of our hero, Arno Dorian.

  • LG G Pro 2 – Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) with Quad core 2260 MHz processor

LG G Pro 2 – Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) with Quad core 2260 MHz processor

lg-g-pro-2LG has been coming up with superb devices for a while now. We saw them launch the Optimus G, Nexus 4, G Pro, G2, Nexus 5 and various other devices that impressed us. This Korean manufacturer has working hard to give tough competition to the market leader. The recently launched LG G2 is a powerful device which brought some new hardware and software features with it. Now they have showcased another new device which would go against the popular phablets in the market. This new device is LG G Pro 2, the second iteration of their LG G Pro phablet.

This device is slightly bigger than the previous device and has got some new hardware and software features. They have put the powerful Snapdragon 800 chipset in it that we saw on the LG G2 and Nexus 5. Also they have increased the display size and battery capacity over the G Pro. The camera has also been improved and you can do lot more than ever. So here is a closer look on this upcoming device.

    Design

The device measures 157.9 x 81.9 x 8.3 mm and weighs 172 gms, exactly the same as G Pro. You can see already from the numbers that the device is huge, even bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Using the device with one hand is something we humans can’t do. While the G Pro had a physical home key up front like older LG devices, this one follows the scheme we saw on the G2. The power and volume controls are on the back of the device. You can easily operate these controls using your first finger once you get accustomed to this setup.

The build quality is pretty good though now we would love to see them use some premium materials. The device will be available in three colours: white, silver and titan. Just like the G2, the G Pro 2 has got a very slim bezel around the display. The display measures 5.9 inches measured diagonally. The LG logo sits below the display where the physical key used to be on the G Pro. Overall the design is neat and the device surely feels premium.

    Display

The device, as we already said, has a 5.9 inch display. It is an IPS LCD display like on many other high end LG devices. It has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 which gives it a pixel density of 373 pixels per inch. It used to be almost 400 pixels per inch on the G Pro due to smaller display size. Being an IPS display, it has got superb colour replication and viewing angles. Sunlight readability should be good too as it has got decent brightness. Watching high definition videos would be an absolute treat on this device. To protect the display from scratches, they have gone for gorilla glass 3 protection on the display. So even if you put keys and coins in the same pocket as your phone, you won’t end up with scratches on the display.

    Hardware

Like the Nexus 5 and G2, this device runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. This is one of the most powerful chipset powering many popular devices. The quad core processor runs at a clock speed of 2.26 GHz. The graphics are handled by an Adreno 330 GPU and it has got 3 GB of RAM. You get the storage option of 16 and 32 GB with a micro SD slot that can house storage up to 64 GB. They have switched the 3140 mAh battery in G Pro for a slightly bigger 3200 mAh battery in this one.

For connectivity you get the usual options like USB 2.0, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Infrared.

    Camera

The device has got a 13 megapixel camera. While the resolution is same as the G Pro, there have been a number of other improvements. It has got optical image stabilisation with the lens assembly mounted on springs. The competition is stiff with all the rivals boasting high end camera specs so they would have to live up to the expectations. You get the usual goodies like face detection and high dynamic range photography. They have added something called ‘magic focus’ which allows you to alter the depth of focus. The upgrade here is in the video section. Instead of 1080p, you can record videos in 2160p at 30 fps. You can also record slow motion videos at very high frame rate. It supports 1080p videos at 60 fps and 720p videos at 120 fps.

They have done something fresh to the front camera as well. With the 2.1 megapixel front camera, they have added something to shoot selfies in dark. You can reduce the size of viewfinder and it would put a white border around it. This would illuminate your face in dim lit environments.

    Software

The device runs android 4.4.2 Kit Kat with the LG UI on top of it. This is pretty standard but they have added some new features like the Knock Code. Some LG devices previously got the Knock-on feature which allowed people to turn on the display by tapping on it twice. On this device, the display is divided into four zones and you can set a combination to tap on the display. This would turn on the display and unlock the device as well. Also there is content lock which can be used to password protect certain files, photos and videos. There is also a mini view like on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which scales down the display for one handed operation.

    Verdict

This device seems promising and with all the new software features, a tough rival to the Galaxy Note 3. We are yet to see when this device makes it to our market. If they price it well, it might sell in good numbers.

MWC 2014: HTC Unveils Desire 816 And 610, Power To Give Initiative

HTC announced their new “flagship mid-range” phone, the Desire 816. They also made a couple announcements reminiscent of the ones Nokia used to make that focus on other actions and initiatives that can be taken to improve the well-being of others. HTC also confirmed that it will launch the successor to the HTC One on 25 March.

    Desire 816

HTCDesire816While HTC Desire 816’s price and availability are still being kept as a secret, but the smartphone will have a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels resolution) display and be powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC processor with 1.5GB of RAM. With 8GB of internal storage with support for microSD cards up to 128GB, which may just be the highest expandable memory capacity handled by any smartphone. With the presence of a brand new HTC Sense 5.5 UI on top.

HTC Desire 816 will also have a 13-megapixel f2.2 rear and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The handset ditches the firm’s Ultrapixel camera technology, earlier in the HTC One series. The smartphone is having a 2600mAh battery, is just 7.99mm thick and weighs 165g. HTC Desire 816 will offer LTE and HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps) for connectivity options.

    Specifications for the Desire 816:
    • 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
    • 5.5 inch 720p display
    • 1.5 GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD expansion card support up to 64GB

    Desire 610

nexusae0_HTCDesire610_thumbThe HTC Desire 610 is a smaller device, with a 4.7″ qHD screen. The Desire 610 has an 8MP camera and is powered by a Snapdragon 400 chipset. It has a fairly large battery too, 2,400mAh, which surprisingly is only a bit smaller than that of the phablet. Also having 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. The handset is scheduled to hit Europe sometime in May.

These devices both show a lack of capacitive keys, suggesting on-screen buttons. They also come with BlinkFeed and dual-frontal speakers with BoomSound, so expect these to provide a One-like experience at a fraction of the cost once they’re available.

    Specifications for the Desire 816:
    • 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
    • 4.7 inch qHD display
    • 1 GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD expansion card support up to 64GB
    • Bluetooth 4 with aptX and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi

    Power to Give

At MWC, HTC also announced its new Power To Give initiative, which will allow users to volunteer a bit of their smartphone’s computational power to good causes. When your device is charging, connected to WiFi, and your battery is over 90 percent, you can allow it to download small bits of data, process it, and upload it back to a server. Just like the Intel’s initiative. Your device will assist projects related to cancer, AIDs, and clean water research. The app will work with the HTC One series, Butterfly, and Butterfly s, along with select other devices such as the Galaxy S4, even though that phone can already use Samsung’s own Power Sleep app.

Intel “Ivy Town” 15 Core Xeon E7 Processors Specs Revealed

Intel has revealed details about its upcoming microprocessor for enterprise servers at the International Solid State Circuit Technology Conference. The chip will feature up to 15 cores, all-new topology as well as enhanced RAS [reliability, availability, scalability] features.
The yet to be launched “Ivy Town” Intel CPU series is one of the chips that makes such high performance and capacity levels possible.
Known as Xeon E7-8800v2, it is made for business servers and other enterprise applications, particularly high-end workstations.
The chip is a 15-core model (64-bit Ivy-Bridge cores), which means that the system can use 30 threads, thanks to Hyper-Threading technology.
The cache memory is a massive 35.7 MB (shared L3 cache), and the overpowered spec sheet continues with a high-speed serial I/O interface.

The Ivy Town processor’s high-speed serial I/O’s includes of 40 lanes of PCI Express (2.5/5.0/8.0Gbps), four lanes of direct media interface (DMI) (2.5/5.0Gbps), and 60 lanes of QPI (6.4/7.2/8.0Gbps) interface to connect with other central processing units (CPUs).ivy-townThe floor plan of the Ivy Town chip is considerably different compared to today’s multi-core chips and is driven by the ring bus routability and latency, as well as the chop requirements to different core counts. The cores and associated L3 cache are organized in columns of five with the ring bus segment embedded.
