After Xiaomi, sales of OnePlus also banned in India

01-730x741After Xiaomi ban in India, the consumers are facing the ban of the trending smartphone OnePlus. According to new Delhi High Court notice, device manufacturer OnePlus is now banned from selling, marketing, or even importing the OnePlus One in India, reported by UnleashThePhones.

And Guess what this big sad news came on OnePlus’ first anniversary. Domestic brand Micromax complained to the High Court in the capital that OnePlus was infringing on its country-specific exclusivity agreement with Cyanogen, whose OS will feature on Micromax’s YU brand of devices.

According to Micromax “incurred major expenses for creation of a brand exclusivity for providing to Indian customers mobile phones with Cyanogen operating systems” and “it would suffer irreparable harm and loss if the defendants (OnePlus) are permitted to continue with their illegal acts in violation of the agreement between Micromax and Cyanogen”.

Furthermore, the Delhi High Court apart from restraining OnePlus from importing and marketing its smartphones in India, barred the company from shipping any stock that bears Cyanogen branding in the country.

From recent news, Cyanogen has also already confirmed that they will not offer OTA updates to OnePlus devices sold in India.

  • How to improve the experience of loyal users

How to improve the experience of loyal users

I am definitely a fan of the undisputed minimalist design. So, whenever the opportunity presents itself to reduce the information presented on the screen, I do it with great pleasure. But people

realized very quickly based on experience, that there are certain actions that users learned through repeated execution of tasks. That’s why very often we resort to the use of labels, tool tips, etc. From there, users know what to do and where to go. However, this can often lead to some confusion and visual clutter, especially when we spend time on our mobile device or on applications with a ton of logos and ugly design.

A study by Nielsen Norman Group, shows that the best approach to bypass this problem would be to go slowly: start with the original logo at baseline and implement changes step by step. In addition, it is recommended, and more efficient to test your changes through user testing, instead of just throwing what you consider to be a decent job and will be accepted by all. This way, you will avoid forcing your users to join your view of design, you can even lose them.

One of the most recommended implementation methods of NNG, is to use the method of: Progressive Reduction (PR), the idea is that users become familiar over time with changes in the application.

    The secret of it all

To understand why the “Progressive Reduction” is a good idea, you must understand where it comes from. Basically, the culture of the reduction has its roots in Flat Design where we remov everything unnecessary and cumbersome for the user, in order to achieve a design that would be characterized as “honest”.

The problem is that designers spend a lot of time on the development of a global design, and over time they always end up reaching a pro user oriented design. Therefore, it always turns to UI design without much superfluous.

However, keep in mind that the trends of users change frequently. To remedy this problem, we can use PR to achieve the minimal UI we want, and keep the maximum convenience for our users. In addition, we can go further in terms of putting UX explanations to least used features and remove these explanations for the most used features.user-experience-design-uxd

How to improve the experience of loyal users

The best way is to start with a minimal interface, and build from there. However, if you are on a large complex project, you must first ensure you simplify complexity before attacking the PR component, otherwise, the contribution of PR is really minimal.

Regardless of where you begin your project, once you have your “base”, identify the key features of your application, the ones you want to cut, and assign levels to these characteristics.

Then, the most important is to control the use of your users about the new design, and compare your results with the previous design phase. From there, the best practice would be to develop a competency profile for each user. With this profile, you will be able to customize your application’s user interface to reduce aid to use.

One last thing to remember is the concept of loss of experience (Experience Decay). In other words, the jurisdiction of a user in the use of any product deteriorates over time in the absence of use. To account for this, steps should be taken to enable the interface to remain understandable, even after some time of inactivity. This can be easily achieved through the seen previously system level. If a user’s use frequency down, then the level of simplification of the interface will follow. The regression is necessary to balance the progression. Without it, you lose the ability to fully meet the dynamic changes in user behavior.

  • Google updates reCAPTCHA with a tick box

Google updates reCAPTCHA with a tick box

    recaptcha_2014

When CAPTCHA tests were first introduced they offered a process to check that someone online was real human and not a bot. But then the bots got clever enough to solve them, resulting in more difficult captcha which are hard to read. And even a bot-immune CAPTCHA can be beaten by a human being paid to solve the text puzzles. CAPTCHAs have long relied on the inability of robots to solve distorted text. But, Google’s recent research  showed that today’s Artificial Intelligence tech can solve even the most difficult variant of distorted text at 99.8% accuracy.

    Recaptcha_anchor2x

Now Google has updated its system called reCAPTCHA and dropped the manual CAPTCHA test. Rather, you just have to simply tick a box to confirm you are human. That may sound like incredibly simple security that any bot could overcome, but the tick box isn’t all, it’s what Google is doing in the backend that makes this system secure and reliable.

On mobile platforms this system works a little bit different. You’ll still get the tick box to tap, but the secondary text will be a picture question/puzzle asking you to select all similar images to the one it presents.

The new API is the next step in this steady evolution. Now, humans can just check the box and in most cases, they’re through the challenge. The updated “No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHAs” is already rolling out on websites across the web.

Mozilla is expanding beyond its awesome Firefox browser and getting hands dirty in the suddenly hot streaming video business.

MatchStick HDMI streaming stick, which will sell for a limited time through Kickstarter at a starting price of $12 before it goes to retail. It’s final price of $25 sets its sights on the Chromecast, the $35 streaming dongle from the Google. Matchstick runs on Mozilla’s Firefox OS, the open source mobile operating system.

With over 17,000 backers and $470,000 in funding, it’s hard to call Matchstick anything but a success for Mozilla.

Awesome Firefox Tricks You Might Not Know

“Due to Matchstick’s unique openness, we believe it will lead to a greater number of cool apps and lower price. These are tangible benefits a consumer will readily embrace,” Jack Chang, the US general manager of Matchstick.

“It’s better than Chromecast,” extols the promo video on the Kickstarter page, which humorously shows Matchstick testers getting thrown out of an Ikea furniture store for using the Ikea living room sets to test the Matchstick — and asks for money so they can “shoot a real commercial.”

Both the hardware and software for Matchstick are open-source. Matchstick is built on a dual-core Rockchip 3066 processor, has 4 gigabytes of onboard storage, 1 gigabyte of DDR3 memory, and supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

The Motorola ‘Monster’ Droid Turbo with QHD Display

Motorola has launched its latest Droid-series smartphone, the Droid Turbo, exclusively on US mobile carrier Verizon. Verizon announced that the Droid Turbo smartphone by Motorola will be available starting October 30 from its online and retail stores. It comes in a choice of a durable “Ballistic Nylon” build, or a “metalized” Kevlar fiber build.

    droid-turbo

The display has the highest pixels density seen on any phone to date. It is the first ‘phone’ to ship with a Snapdragon 805 chipset running at full speed and only phablets have previously shipped with 3GB of RAM. The main attraction is the huge 3900mAh, larger than any phone has ever fitted.

The quick charging seen in other Motorola handsets has made it across as well with the company stating the Droid Turbo will get eight hours of usage from a 15 minute charge. It features a 5.2-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display offering a pixel density of 565ppi, much higher than the 5.5-inch LG G3 at 534ppi and 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 4 at 515ppi. The screen also includes Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective layer.

The Motorola Droid Turbo sports a 21-megapixel rear autofocus camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash. The rear camera comes with features such as slow motion video; burst mode; auto HDR; Panorama, and tap to focus. Meanwhile, it can also record 4K videos at 24fps. It includes a 2-megapixel front camera.

iPhone 6 Wins the Race With its Close Competitors

Droid Turbo will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat rather than the impending Android 5.0 Lollipop, though Motorola does promise an upgrade to it and Verizon has allowed Motorola to keep Android relatively stock.

It will go on sale on 30 October and will be competitively priced at $199 and $249.99 for 32 and 64GB models respectively, both on two year contracts.
