Install Android 4.3 on your Galaxy S4

android 4.3The leak stems from a Samsung insider with access to an early build of Android 4.3 (JWR66N) as the company adapts it to run on the phone’s hardware. This insider, who provided screenshots as proof, believes the phone will actually be updated with the latest “Jelly Bean” installment this July. That said, we’ll likely see the HTC One Google Play Edition get the same first-class Android 4.3 love next month along with the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

The same source that provided the screenshots and insider info may have provided the firmware to download and test as well. As seen on SamMobile, it’s the very one fitted for the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, but the site ported it to a standard Galaxy S4 and reportedly received some “outstanding” results. The port is working perfectly, the site claims; nothing is apparently broken. The build date was June 26, so this firmware is essentially fresh out of the oven.

Google hasn’t made Android 4.3 public yet, but it’s good to know that OEMs already have access to the source code. Early access will result in quick software updates and less Android fragmentation. Keep in mind, Android 4.3 is still in development phases and does not have all the features which are yet to be implemented.

“Strairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin: Facts you don’t know

starirway to heavenStairway to Heaven. One of the most acclaimed classic rock songs of all time, despite it never being released as a single in the US charts. This didn’t chart because it was never released as a single to the general public. Radio stations received promotional singles which quickly became collector’s items.

So hit play on the video below and jam out to this great live version of Stairway while you read:

    • Stairway to Heaven remains the biggest-selling sheet music in the history of rock. An average hit sells 10,000 to 15,000 copies of sheet music. Stairway to Heaven has sold well over one million copies.
    • The lyrics came to Robert Plant in a flash of inspiration when he and Jimmy Page were sitting by the fireplace at Headley Grange with Page strumming the intro chords. Said Plant:

“I was holding a pencil and paper, and for some reason I was in a very bad mood. Then all of a sudden my hand was writing out the words, ‘There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold/And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.’ I just sat there and looked at the words and then I almost leapt out of my seat.”

    • This runs 8:03, but still became one of the most-played songs on American radio, proving that people wouldn’t tune out just because a song was long. It was a perfect fit for FM radio, which was a newer format challenging the established AM with better sound quality and more variety. “Stairway” fit nicely into what was called the “Album Oriented Rock” (AOR) format, and later became a staple of Classic Rock. By most measures, it is the most-played song in the history of American FM radio. It has also sold more sheet music than any other rock song – about 10,000 to 15,000 copies a year, and more than one million total.

    • This was the only song whose lyrics were printed on the album’s inner sleeve.

    • Backmasking – This is rumored to contain backward satanic messages, as if Led Zeppelin sold their souls to the devil in exchange for “Stairway To Heaven.” Supporting this theory is the fact that Jimmy Page bought Aleister Crowley’s house in Scotland, known as Boleskine House. In his books, Crowley advocated that his followers learn to read and speak backwards.
    • Forward:’If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now, it’s just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run there’s still time to change the road you’re on.’
    • Reverse: ‘Oh here’s to my sweet Satan. The one whose little path would make me sad, whose power is satan. He’ll give those with him 666, there was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, sad Satan.’

    • The acoustic, fingerpicking intro is very similar to the song “Taurus” from the band Spirit, who toured with Led Zeppelin when they first played the US. Regarding the composition of the track, Jimmy Page told Rolling Stone: “I was trying things at home, shunting this piece up with that piece. I had the idea of the verses, the link into the solo and the last part. It was this idea of something that would keep building and building.”

–> “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” by The Beatles – What they really mean !! <-

    • Many critics trashed this song when it came out: Lester Bangs described it as “a thicket of misbegotten mush, and the British music magazine Sounds said it induced “first boredom and then catatonia.”
    • Zeppelin’s longest ever performance of this song was their last gig in Berlin in 1980. It clocked in around 15 minutes long.
    • The ending of this song is distinctive in that is closes out with just Robert Plant’s voice. According to Jimmy Page, he wrote a guitar part to end the song, but decided to leave it off since the vocal at the end had such an impact.

There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stars are all close
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.
There’s a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
‘Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there’s a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
    Ooh, it makes me wonder,
    Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There’s a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
    Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it’s whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now,
It’s just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There’s still time to change the road you’re on.
    And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won’t go, in case you don’t know,
The piper’s calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all is one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

  • 7 tips for improving your smartphone’s battery life

7 tips for improving your smartphone’s battery life

increase-battery-life1There are a few tricks which can help extend a smartphone’s battery – even tiny details, such as choosing a dark screensaver, not a bright one, can help. Here’s how to improve smartphone’s battery life. These are applicable for android, iPhone or any phone.

    Don’t charge it to full
“Battery memory” means that you should never run your battery empty – and avoid charging it to full. “You should try to go from around 40 per cent to around 80 per cent in one go, and then back down whenever possible,” says experts. “A bunch of tiny charges isn’t as bad as going from 100 down to zero all the time, but it’s not optimal either.”

    Force your phone to sleep
Your phone will last far longer if it goes into “deep sleep” whenever possible. If you have a lot of apps, some of them may be keeping your phone ‘awake’, just to communicate with home base. An Android app called Better Battery Stats will run down exactly what is waking up your phone, and enable you to turn it off. If you can keep your phone in ‘deep sleep’, it’ll last.

    Go dark
Turn the brightness settings down on your phone. Most of your phone’s battery drain is from running the screen. On any phone, set the screen to turn off after 30 seconds.

    Switch screensaver off
Don’t use animated screensavers. It even makes a difference to switch to a black, or dark, screen background so it doesn’t burn as much electricity when you’re in the menus.

Shut down apps you don’t need

Make sure your phone isn’t running apps in the background. On iPhone, you can check by double-tapping the Home button, then pressing ‘X’ to shut ones you don’t need. If you’re unsure, restart your phone to banish apps that might be running without you knowing.

Turn off Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi unless you’re using htem

Switch off wi-fi, Bluetooth, and GPS unless you need them. This will immediately add about a third to your battery life. Lots of people leave them on all the time. On both iPhone and Android, controls to do this are easily accessed via phone menu.

    Check your battery

If your phone gets hot while you use it, it could be that your battery is on its last legs. New ones are cheap on eBay, and if your phone’s old, you can also get ones with much higher storage than the ones it shipped with. Sorry, iPhone owners, this won’t work for you – you can’t take the back off.

A torrent for the subscription version of Photoshop CC has appeared as spotted on The Pirate Bay. The torrent is named “Adobe Photoshop CC 14.0 Final Multilanguage.” The comments on the torrent listing seem to confirm this is the latest version of Photoshop and it works.

The reasons are simple: Adobe applications cost a lot, and they’re the best at what they do.

In the near future, only people who pay $20 per month for a single application, or $50 per month for the entire Creative Suite, will be able to install and upgrade Adobe software over the Internet. (Adobe’s offerings are targeted at professionals, who can tolerate such high prices as the cost of doing business.)

Despite the apparent availability of cracked Adobe applications online, it’s probably not a good idea to install them. You can’t know for sure which files contain malware or spyware.

If you do choose to take that route — and we don’t advocate that you do — make sure you scan each and every pirated, cracked or copied installer or file you download with a malware scanner before you run or open it. You’d also better have a robust anti-virus software product already installed.

Alternatively, you could also consider legally buying Adobe Photoshop Elements, a stripped-down version of Photoshop that does almost everything a non-professional user might need. It’s only $100, with steep discounts available at some online retailers.

Google Launches ‘Loon’ to Deliver Internet Access With Balloons

You know what’s awesome? The Internet. What’s not so great: The utter pain it is to find a fast, reliable Internet connection in so many parts of the world. With its latest moonshot, Google[x] is fighting that headache with creativity, attempting to make an awesome thing, well, even more awesome by spreading the Internet to the furthest reaches of the earth.

The delivery method? High-flying, Internet-spewing balloons.

Eighteen months in the works, the top-secret project was announced in New Zealand, where up to 50 volunteer households are already beginning to receive the Internet briefly on their home computers via translucent helium balloons that sail by on the wind 12 miles above Earth.

While the project is still in the very early testing stages, Google hopes eventually to launch thousands of the thin, polyethylene-film inflatables and bring the Internet to some of the more remote parts of the globe, narrowing the digital divide between the 2.2 billion people who are online and the 4.8 billion who aren’t.

If successful, the technology might allow countries to leapfrog the expense of installing fiber-optic cable, dramatically increasing Internet usage in places such as Africa and Southeast Asia.

“It’s a huge moonshot, a really big goal to go after,” said project leader Mike Cassidy. “The power of the Internet is probably one of the most transformative technologies of our time.”

The so-called Project Loon was developed in the clandestine Google X lab that also came up with a driverless car and Google’s Web-surfing eyeglasses.

Want to see the high-flying, potentially world-changing chicanery in action? The Project Loon’s Google+ page packs plenty of behind-the-scenes photos of the endeavor. Residents of the southern hemisphere may just get an up-close view of the balloons before long: Google is hoping to bring Project Loon to other countries on the same latitude as New Zealand.

  • Facebook RSS reader may roll out on June 20

Facebook RSS reader may roll out on June 20

With Google Reader finally coming to an end, and a few alternate solutions already coming up, Facebook seems to be wading into the game too with plans to launch its own RSS reader.

While Facebook may on the look out to offer its users a promising RSS product as a replacement for the Google Inc reader, it doesn’t seem clear if the feeds would be Facebook’s own content or content taken from elsewhere. It is also not clear if the social media giant would ever be positioned as the best replacement for Google Reader.

If Facebook does have a new RSS reader, the move would fit in with the company’s strategy of trying to become the go-to place for internet users looking to know what is going on in the world, a strategy Mark Zuckerberg pointed to at the March launch of Facebook’s revamped news feed.

“What’s surprising is that the code mentions RSS specifically and distinctly from existing interest lists and friend lists. Also, note that this is unconnected to Facebook outputting RSS feeds, which they’ve done for a while.”
